Comparison of Memory System Behavior in Java and Non-Java Commercial Workloads
In this paper, we compare the memory system behavior of Perl and Java versions of SPECweb99. We find that the memory behaviors of these two versions of SPECweb99 are very different. The Java version incurs 213% more cache misses than the Perl version for a 1 MB second level cache and 179% more misses for a 16 MB cache. Much of this increase is due to true sharing, which is 222% to 415% higher i...
متن کاملEmpirical Performance Models for Java Workloads
Java is widely deployed on a variety of processor architectures. Consequently, an understanding of microarchitecture level Java performance is critical to optimize current systems and to aid design and development of future processor architectures for Java. Although this is facilitated by a rich set of processor performance counters featured on several contemporary processors, complex processor...
متن کاملMemory Organization and Optimization for Java Workloads
Java has become a popular paradigm in software development. It is widely used in embedded systems and network computing because of its excellent robustness, modularity and security. Its built-in garbage collection automatically reclaims unused memory space. Current generational garbage collector works well with programs containing massive short-lived objects. However, the existence of hot-matur...
متن کاملMethod-level code clone detection for java through hybrid approach
A Software clone is an active research area where several researchers have investigated techniques to automatically detect duplicated code in programs. However their researches have limitations either in finding the structural or functional clones. Moreover, all these techniques detected only the first three types of clones. In this paper, we propose a hybrid approach combining metric-based app...
متن کاملMicroarchitectural Characterization of Production JVMs and Java Workloads
Understanding and comparing Java Virtual Machine (JVM) performance at a microarchitectural level can identify JVM performance anomalies and potential opportunities for optimization. The two primary tools for microarchitectural performance analysis are hardware performance counters and cycle accurate simulators. Unfortunately, the nondeterminism, complexity, and size of modern JVMs make these to...
